Mooji offers an extended inquiry into what he calls the general 'I' — the seed thought behind every other thought, normally mistaken for the experiencer. The teaching invites a step back into the awareness in which both 'I' and its objects appear.

The General 'I' - An Essential Inquiry 13 February 2026 (with subtitles) M: 'Mind', mind means movement, thought. 'Mind', when you hear, 'Mind', it means thought, feelings also, imagination, concepts, belief, the traffic of perceiving. Mind and thought. Let's use the word, just, Thought. OK? Everything we call mind is thought, just thought activities. OK? Behind each and every thought is a, what I call a general thought. Behind every thought action, there is a seed thought. An 'I' thought, or the thought, 'I'. Just see if you can catch up with me. Behind every thought, every sensation, there is an 'I' for whom that thought matters. The 'I' that is watching, perceiving. I think you gave me a hint of that when you said, 'There's always this, 'Ch, ch, ch''. Everything is reporting, it seems, to this 'I', this 'I' thought. OK? Normally, most human beings don't recognise that 'I' is itself a thought. Just bear with me. The 'I' feels like the experiencer of everything: thought feeling time comings goings life death up down gods angels demons. Everything. It's watching from this 'I' thought, or the thought, 'I', the feeling, 'I am'. But this, 'I am', is personal. I'm going to ask you at some point that you listen to this again. Because if you catch this, what I'm sharing, you catch a lot here. So this 'I', this general thought, which is behind every thought, is appearing like the witness. We don't usually accept this as a thought. We accept this as 'me'. M: The sense 'me', the experiencer. This 'I' thought also has a deeper witness to it. Don't just listen in your mind, look from your Self. A deeper knowing is behind that, that sees even this 'I' - 'me'. And do you know why? Because this 'I' - 'me' can get hurt. It's reactive. It's reacting to the sensations that come through the senses. The senses are actually innocent. And they are very important, our senses. They tell you when they're in danger, something is hot or cold, or something is getting too fast. The senses are important. They are in all sentient beings. Senses are very important. OK? Mind also is an energy, a very amazing energy of God, the mind. But when they are in service to the 'I' thought, which is the 'me' self, the person, you need to watch what this 'me-person' is. Inside every 'I', the supreme seed is there, of pure consciousness. But it sprouts like, 'I Am'. First, 'I Am', and then, 'I am this'. And then when, 'I am this', comes, then 'you' come. There cannot be the sense of 'you' before the sense of 'I'. When, 'I am this', comes, then each body has a different identity. The same 'I', but in different conditioning. And then separation. And different ways of thinking. And the being, in the individuality, cannot control its world. It's the game of God, the book of life. M: So, if you can catch the point where I say, Each individual perspective of the world is subjective, meaning that it's just how you feel for you. In another point, the 'I', as individuality, may have completely different things. No two 'I's can agree about everything. Do you understand? Even with itself, also sometimes. So the field that the 'I' lives in, called the world, and so on, is not stable. Yet the 'I' is searching a bit towards stability. Because in the world of just person, we are getting tired. Because you can't just beat the mind. Do you understand? The only way to really succeed is to discover your true self, which is the natural sense, 'I Am', before the person. So when I say, We are the witness to the person, for everybody it's the same! It's just that you're not aware of it. If everything that you have learned can be taken away, everything you own can be taken away. 'No, no, no, no!' But each time you're feeling more you. Because your original self doesn't actually need. Do you understand? At some point, you realise, 'Remove everything', but 'you' cannot be removed. Because what is left that cannot be removed is the presence of God. M: So when you're experiencing, 'Yeah, but my mind, my mind', you're talking about your relationship with your thoughts from the position of the person. Now, when I ask you, But the person itself, can it be an object of perception? To come to the point where you can embrace and accommodate this question that I'm asking you, means that, already, you've evolved enough to be asked this question. Can your person itself be an aspect of mind? And if you confirm, 'Yes ...' 'My person is not universal, it's very local!' OK? The very fact that you can confirm this, means you must be earlier than it. So from this place where the person, if the person is caught, it's whole world is caught. Can you see this? Its belief, its thinking, its future, everything is embodied in the sense of the person. So if the person itself can be seen, by what is it seen? And what is the nationality of this seer? What is the race of this seer? What is the gender of this seer? Remember, all those things I'm mentioning are in the person. The person itself, is seen. The person is like the software programme. It has all this stuff in there. The operator that perceives it, what does it look like? You can experience. You don't need to imagine here. This is directly known, but not known in the way that you know through your mind. Are you here or not? M: If the person itself is on the screen, M: meaning the screen of perception, the screen of all things that arise and are perceived, if the person itself becomes, 'Ah!', with all its world, with all its variation, it is also perceivable. That which perceives it, needs what? We don't need to guess. If you're having difficulty comprehending what I'm speaking, don't worry. Another force is helping in another way. It's with you. If it brought you here, it will take care of you. This is all you need to be working with. But the mind, even the sattvic mind, is saying, 'Yeah, I feel like reading something from Maharaj. I feel like reading something.' It's still trying to ... Because this is too direct! But even the sense of being too direct is perceived as only an appearance. M: Can you confirm? Voices in group: Yes. M: Are you the journeyer? Or the witness of the journeyer? You can answer, 'Not yet', if you want. I accept, but I won't believe you. You can hop off the train anytime, OK? M: Another one is coming. Can you bear this kind of inquiry? What you can realise, you can come to the place of just pure consciousness. And through that, in the sense that the personal identity is not dominating in this body anymore. Then the pure grace of God is flowing through. And then some may say, 'This is God'. It awakens in them, God, you see, like this. [silence] I looked again, when I made a painting of the Buddha in the Sangha shop, I wrote on it, 'Let no man say what God is or what God is not. Let him go inside and abide in this place. Abide in his Lord there.' The rest is unspeakable. Let's just take a bit of space for the moment. Just ... Everything is hanging in this space, OK. What is this space? It's not spaced out. What is this space? Where is it going? All things arise, manifest in it, subside in it. It's not inert, it's not like it's dead. It's beyond dead and alive. It's total absolute, inscrutable, ineffable. You can never be apart from it. Becoming awake to it, you'll know you can never not be. Here we are one. There is no need for titles, they soon disappear. We can superficially play. But in the heart of awareness there are no species. There are no different religions, different political views, atheists and believers. None of this. It's only in the dynamic, magnificent creation of mind with the heart of being, which is here, also. It enables us to listen and to comprehend without taking shape. And to be in the fragrance of the perfect, melting, melting without fear. What does melting mean? In an acid bath? Not like that. Unless you want to say, the acid bath of God's grace. You say, 'Yeah, OK, OK, this is good'. [silence] Mind is thought. The general thought 'I', subtle mind ... When this 'I'-self-person is perceived, it exposes a deeper space, with a subtle form of 'I' that is beyond characteristics. This is our place and clue in the manifest. When that itself is seen, the seer of this cannot be grasped. [silence] It is our divine destiny to awaken to the eternal. For this reason we come, whether you are aware of it or not. [silence] If you have the intuition to welcome this, and even further, to be fully absorbed in it, then, without needing more and more explanation, if that intuition is already alive in you, it is already bearing fruit. Don't depend upon the mind. The mind has a part to play, but it's highly overrated. Grace, grace is another name an aspect of what we are. [silence] Thank you. Om Namah Shivaya. Om Namah Shivaya.
